Augmentin (Amoxicillin & Clavulanate Potassium) Augmentin Information Augmentin belongs to a class of drugs called penicillins. It, being an antibiotic, helps in fighting bacteria in the body. Augmentin has a generic name of Amoxicillin and Clavulanate Potassium. Augmentin Indications Augmentin is used to treat bacterial infections such as: * Sinusitis * Pneumonia * Ear infections * Bronchitis * Urinary Tract Infections * Skin infections Augmentin Warnings/Precautions Discuss with your doctor if you have any of the ailments below prior to taking Augmentin: * Kidney or liver disease * Mononucleosis You may not be advised to take Augmentin in any of the above case. Overdose of Augmentin is manifested by: * Nausea * Vomiting * Stomach pain * Rashes * Drowsiness * Hyperactivity * Kidney problems Augmentin Side Effects Seek medical help and stop intake of Augmentin if you experience any of the following serious conditions: * Allergic reaction such as shortness of breath; closing of the throat, hives; swelling of the lips, face, or tongue; rashes; fain ting * Diarrhea that lasts longer than 3 days Minor side effects include the following: * Mild diarrhea * Nausea or vomiting * Rashes * White patches in the mouth (thrush or yeast infection) * Vaginal yeast infection or diaper rash In any of these cases, just continue use of Augmentin and seek medical advice. For other reactions that are particularly causing discomfort, tell your doctor. Augmentin Drug Interactions Inform your doctor if you are presently taking any if these medicaments: * Allopurinol (Zyloprim) * Probenecid (Benemid) * Antibiotic (for the same or for a different reaction) You may need to have dosage adjustments or be put under special monitoring during your treatment period.
